MAKE IT MONDAY - PUBLISHED WRITING

Yesterday it was Make it Monday and... Amelia read The Flying Fish to everyone.  The Mrs Lunn challenged us to make a kite.  Then Phoebe got to see if our kites were bigger than 30cm with a hard, plastic ruler.

By Ava

On Make it Monday, we made lots of kites.  They had to be longer than 30cm. It was very fun for us.  We love Make it Monday.  I worked with Ava, Penny and Maelee.

KEEPING OURSELVES SAFE - TOUCH

Today we talked about the different types of touch.  We talked about Touch we like, like hugs and cuddles, back rubs and tickles.  We talked about touch that hurts like hitting, kicking and biting.  Then we talked about touch that is confusing.  The children defined confusing touch as touching that makes us feel yucky.  The children brainstormed some ideas of what they would find confusing.  We then discussed what we could do if this happened to us.  The children decided that the best thing to do was to say "Stop it! I don't like it!"  We talked about the children needing to move away and find a safe adult to tell.   A homework sheet has come home tonight.

We realise that his can be a bit of an awkward conversation with children, but it is a vital one to have.

Thanks for your ongoing support

PEPEHA ART

During our final day with Miss Smith, we drew picture representation of our pepeha.  We did a pretty good job.  We look forward to having them hanging up in our room.

PUBLISHED WRITING - BOWER AND ROYCE

We have been writing some stories at school.
Here are a couple of them...

FISHING

One day I went to go fishing.  I caught something.  It was really big.  The fish was too big.  The fish was really strong.  It was pulling the fishing rod and it pulled it out of my hand and I never saw it again. - By Bower

COCKROACH

My Dad went on the forklift.  There was a cockroach on his seat!  - By Royce

ENVIROCLUB!

This term Miss Smith has been working with us to be more friendly to the Earth and learn how to recycle - she says you're never too young to start going green!

We started by making some recycling bins that we use in class. Now we know where to put our old fruits and healthy snacks - they go to compost because they go back to the earth. We also have a bin for paper, for hard plastic and soft plastic. Some stuff still goes into the landfill, but not as much. Otherwise we would be living under a mountain of trash! The kids from Pae Ake come collect our recycling and compost so we all work together.

Enviroclub also has Friday opt-ins. We made a bug hotel and a bee swimming pool from recycled stuff and sticks and stones outside. Bugs and bees are important too! We went outside into the woods and had so much fun, we even found seashells! We wondered why there were seashells in the woods outside!

We also made some Art out of recycled things like cereal boxes and old hose pipes! We used paints and our imagination to make really different things!

Miss Smith was so proud of the stories we made up along with our artwork that she wrote them up for us!

There's so much fun stuff to make with recycling, and it helps our earth too!

KEEPING OURSELVES SAFE - HYGIENE

Today for Keeping Ourselves Safe, we talked about hygiene and cleanliness.  We discussed all the amazing things our bodies can do like making art, dancing , writing stories and playing sport.  We also talked about some things that are not so good about our bodies.  Sometimes we get sick, or get head-lice or get smelly.  We talked about ways to keep ourselves clean and hygienic.  Things like washing our hands after going to the toilet, coughing into our sleeve, washing our bodies and clothes regularly, getting our hair checked for lice or brushing our teeth twice a day.  These are all great ways to help look after ourselves.

You can help us at home by discussing this with us.

Thank you for your support

KEEPING OURSELVES SAFE - MY AMAZING BODY

Today Mrs Udy taught us all about our amazing bodies.

The message our teachers wanted to get across to us today what that no one can touch our bodies in a way that we do not like.

We are the boss of our body and that we say what we like.

Mrs Udy showed us a picture of a body.  We went through and labeled the different parts of the bodies.  We noticed that some body parts have many different names.  There are called different things in different languages too.  On the picture we wrote the correct name that we would use if we were talking to a doctor.

Today a sheet is coming home for us to get you to help us write the different names on our sheet.  We can write them in English or the language we speak at home, or both!
