SPILT MILK - EXPLANATION
Today in Mrs Lunn's Literacy Group, we continued learning to write explanations. We had to look carefully at the picture and then explain what we think was happening.
By Alyssa
I think the milkman got one hundred bottles of milk delivered to a family in Auckland. The cat came to the doorstep and knocked a bottle over. The cat drank the milk from the bottle. Now the family had ninety nine bottles.
By Mason P
When the milkman delivered the family's milk, suddenly the cat scrapped his face on the side of the bottle. Crash! The milk dripped. Then he lapped up the creamy milk. When he finished the milk, he did it to every other one. Mum said ... "You are in big trouble. You are supposed to tell us if we have milk. You are grounded!"
By Ava
One day the milkman delivered the milk and left it on the front doorstep. Boof! The kitten knocked over a milk bottle on the step. Crash! Crash! Crash! went the milk. Then there was only five left in the tray of milk. When the owner came out of the house, the owner said, "Naughty, naughty little kitten. Stay in the house!"
By Amelia
One day I was going up to my door step. When I got there I saw some white stuff on the ground. My brother left the door open and my cat came out and spilt all the milk bottles. Splash! The milk went flying everywhere. It went all over me!
By Reuben
When the milkman delivered the milk, a random cat jumped up on to the door step and tipped over one bottle of milk.
By Samuel
One day the milkman delivered some milk for the family. A strange cat didn't look where he was going. Crash went the milk bottle! The cat was disappointed because he knocked over the milk on the deck. The cat was hungry. Then he began to lap up the creamy milk.
By Coltyn
I think the wind spilt the mile over. and the cat licked the milk. The milk dripped off the steps and onto the stones.
By Tryton
One day a cat found spilt milk on the door step and he drank up the milk.
By Jed
When a strange cat came along the milkman had no space to put one bottle. So he carried the six bottles and put them at the front door. The cat knocked over the milk. "Oh no!"
By Jacob N
One sunny day the milk man delivered the milk to the family's house but a kitten knocked the milk down on to the concrete. Then she got told off for knocking the milk down.

MYSTERY KETE
This week, we started a new routine. The Mystery Kete is an oral language activity that we do in our Literacy groups. A child takes the Mystery Kete home and choose something to put inside it. They have to keep it a secret but they can write down a few clues to tell the kids. On Wednesday Jacob shared his clues with the class. We were stumped! After asking a few questions we FINALLY guessed that it was some money! Jacob's Dad brought it home from South Sudan.

STARRY NIGHT - VINCENT VAN GOGH 1889
Today our writing was inspired by Van Gogh's painting, the Starry Night. Have a read of these amazing stories! Feel free to post a comment if you enjoy them too. Thanks!
Starry Night - By Ruby
In 1889 there was a painting. It was called Starry night and it was a happy night. It was a windy night. There was a tree and there is the stars were twinkling.
Starry Night - By Brooklyn
I saw a cool village and the stars were twinkling through the sky. The moon was shining though the beautiful sky.

I see a church in the middle. Van Gogh's painting looks so calm. I'm going to fall asleep. I see long grass.
Starry Night - By Lucas
One windy night the moon was shining and the stars were shining and the moon was full. The people were asleep in their beds.

Starry Night - By Bower
One starry night at a small village, the moon was shining in the dark sky. The stars were shining too. Some people were sleeping in their houses and some people were just watching TV or Netflix, or just resting at their homes. People's lights were on. Then I went outside and lay down. I saw many stars and the moon. The moon was a half moon. It was cool. Then I went home and slept. The next night, I saw the same thing.
Starry Night - By Madison
I like this picture because it looks cool. There are bright stars and the moon is very bright. The town is dark and there is a tree. There is a black tree beside the town ... the wind looks pretty. The stars are twinkling in the dark sky and the people are at home.
Starry Night - By Phoebe
It was windy at the village. The starts were shining and the moon was shining. The church was closed. The people were not all asleep. Some were awake and the children were asleep.

E HIA NGA MEA? - HOW MANY THINGS?
In Te Reo we have been learning how to ask "how many things".
In the slideshow you will notice that before tahi there is the word Ko. Number one is very important so it has Ko in front of it. The numbers 2 to 9 have E in front. This shows that it is a number because those words in Maori can also mean other things. For example Rua is also a cloud. By putting the E in front, it means that you are talking about a number. Once you get to tekau -ten, you don't need the E because tekau is only a number.
Here is a photo of Tryton and Van matching up the tens frames to the words in Te Reo.
