Think It Friday - Bears

Last Friday, we heard a story about bears (We're Going on a Bear Hunt) and talked about other stories we know that have bears. We talked about real bears and bears in stories - where they live, what they eat, and what else they do. After some discussion about our options, we were let loose to design or make something about bears to share with the class. This could be a song or poem, a design or model, a story or book review, a play or puppet show - it was really up to us! Wow, there are some creative thinkers in Piako Rua! We came up with lots of different ideas. We had lots of fun designing, researching, making, writing, reading, building and presenting!

CALENDAR ART

We were super busy in the last two weeks of school, getting our calendar art done.  Here are a few photos of our calendar pictures...

INTRODUCING ONE OF OUR SINGING SENSATIONS

This is Jorden.  He started in Piako Rua in Term Two.  In this photo he is singing into the microphone.  We have a microphone in the class.  At the start of the day, and after any break time, we get together for a song.  One child is allowed to sing into the mircophone.  They even get to choose what the song is!

At the moment our favourite songs are:

  • Old town road
  • Up
  • Fight Song
  • Hakuna Matata

PUBLISHED WRITING - THE STONEY BRIDGE

Today's writing motivation was from this painting called The Stoney Bridge by Rembrandt.

I was in my boat when a drop of rain came down.
Black clouds touched my cheek.
A storm was coming.

PUBLISHED WRITING - THE GIRL WITH THE DOVE

Today our writing was inspired by the painting The Girl with a Dove by Pablo Picasso.

Whack!  A dove flew into my our windows when my Mum was cleaning them.  So I came running out to see if I was allowed to pick it up and hold it up to my warm heart in my bed.
By Sophie

A dove hurt it's foot.  I will take it inside.  I will look after it.
By Liam

Whack! I looked up and saw a white dove.  I came running outside to save the dove by carefully holding it on my heart.
By Ava

I saw something flash onto the ground.  I ran outside to see what it was.  It was a dove.  I carefully scooped it up and put it to my heart.

ART OPT-INS

It was a hive of activity in Wonderland on Friday.  There were kids busy finishing pieces of Art they have been working on over the last few weeks.

Look at these CREATIVE artists in action...

Hungry Hedgehogs using vivid, dye and water paints

Seahorses using vivid, dye and pastel

Children were also working on making their Bubbly Hydrangeas artwork.  We put dye and water and some dishwashing liquid in the sink.  Then we had to blow bubbles in the dye and carefully lie the paper on top of the bubbles to make the hydrangea print.  Once the red was dry, we did the same with purple dye.  When the dye dries we will glue leaves onto our pictures.

Stay turned for our finished art up on display in the classroom...
