WORD TOWERS IN WONDERLAND

The literacy groups who work in Wonderland with Ms Udy have been enjoying making cup towers. First they read the word written on the bottom of the cup, then they ask a friend to check the word, then they add the cup to the tower. Here are some of our ākonga (students) making very creative towers out of the words they have read.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW COLLEGE TEACHER

Hello dear teachers, parents, students and whānau, I'm truly looking forward to joining you all at Riverdale! I'm originally from Kilifi, Kenya, a small little town on the Indian Ocean filled with coconut trees and laughter. I've travelled for most of my life, and I chose to come to Aotearoa New Zealand for my teaching studies because I greatly admire the reflective and responsive ideas that influence the education system in this country. I'm inspired by the emphasis on creativity, collaboration, contextual learning, cultural integration and social and spiritual care that underpins the teaching practice here. (I also love alliteration :)) Before relocating for my studies I was a Global Citizenship and French subject teacher back in Kenya, and I have led arts and music camps in Malawi. Teaching is more than a profession to me, it is my purpose! As you get to know me, you'll find that I'm an open book and love conversations about any and every thing... I'm a sailor, an environmentalist, a questioner and an explorer at heart.
I can't wait to meet you all!
Hei te Rāhina!

HURRICANES Vs THE BRUMBIES

Some of us went to the Hurricanes Game in town.
They saw Mrs Lunn there and stopped to have a quick photo.

MATHS RICH TASKS

This is what we did for Friday's Rich Maths Challenge.
We are getting pretty good at working out what we need to know to be able to do to solve these challenges.
We also know that quite often there is more than one way to solve a problem.
This is William's fabulous effort...

FRIDAY'S ASSEMBLY

We went to School Assembly on Friday.
Ms Udy and Ava took part in a game show which was great fun.

Congratulations to Royce, Bonnie and Geordie won Principal's Awards this week.

Amber won a Peace Prize AND then Piako Rua won the Tamatea Trophy for being the tidiest class!

SMART MOVES IN THE HALL

On Friday we did Smart Moves in the Hall.
We are continuing to work on improving our co-ordination and our ability to cross the midline.

FRIDAY'S COOKING OPT-IN - SMOOTHIES

Friday rolls around pretty fast in Piako Rua.
We don't mind though because Friday means COOKING!!!

Mrs Lunn helped us to make smoothies.  We each brought along some fruit to share and Mrs Lunn cut it up for us.  Then we got to choose what fruit we wanted in our smoothie.  There was so much to choose from!

Then we made our own smoothie and you can probably tell from our smoothie moustaches - they tasted delicious!
